Matt Preston Goes Global With MasterChef USA

“Cravat” Matt Preston has been served up a huge opportunity for international exposure with a confirmed guest spot on MasterChef USA.

The numbers from last year’s television ratings demonstrated the consolidated success of the food porn competition series MasterChef at home, and has made local heroes and high-profile personalities of the three hosts: food critic Preston, and chefs Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris. Preston in particular, with his droll wit, pink capri pants and adjective-heavy euphonious critiques has made a particular impact on audiences, culminating in his 2010 Logie Award victory for Most Outstanding New Talent Male.

Sydney Confidential reported that producers of MasterChef USA had tried to secure a cameo from Preston since last year. A “well placed insider” said “Obviously the US market is a lot bigger than Australia and we have seen in the past Australians have a good record in the States and seem to have a lot of appeal with American viewers,” including Oprah favourites Curtis Stone and Jamie Durie.

We wonder if Preston will satisfy the appetites of American viewers or if viewers will find his pompous-dandy routine a little too much to digest?
