Matt Damon And Ben Affleck’s Project Greenlight Is Heading Back To HBO

HBO is on a mighty nostalgia trip right now. Earlier this week, the network announced plans to bring back Lisa Kudrow’s brilliant and highly underrated sitcom The Comeback for a second season. Today brings another blast from the past, with HBO’s announcement that they plan to revive Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Project Greenlight.

Project Greenlight ran from 2001 to 2003 and was pretty classy as far as realty shows go, finding first-time directors and offering them a shot at making an independent film. Though none of the films ever set the box office on fire, season two winner The Battle Of Shaker Heights did introduce the world to a bright, promising young actor by the name of Shia LeBeouf.

Affleck says that the original series, which came and went before everybody and their kid brother was a YouTube star, was ahead of its time. “Now that technology has caught up to the concept, we thought it was time to bring it back,” he said. “A whole new generation of filmmakers has grown up sharing everything, and the next big director could be just an upload away.”

Listening to old people talk about the intertubes is never not wonderful.

At this stage, there is no confirmed return date for Project Greenlight, but whenever it comes around, you can expect the winning film to warm the shit out of the cockles of your heart.
