Four Australians have been nominated for the 2018 Academy Awards, repping our little nation’s talents in the fields of acting, editing, and direction.

Margot Robbie, whose meteoric career hardly needs recapping here, has landed a nomination for Actress in a Leading Role thanks to her turn in I, Tonya. Robbie’s take on the endlessly controversial figure skater Tonya Harding sees her duking it out with Saoirse Ronan, Sally Hawkins, Frances McDormand, and up-and-coming talent Meryl Streep.

Elsewhere, editor Lee Smith was nominated for his taut work on Dunkirk. His clean and precise style lent the film an urgency other editors may have flubbed, and now sees Smith facing his third Oscar nomination after recognition for Master And Commander and The Dark Knight.

Aussies Derin Seale and Josh Lawson, who respectively directed and wrote / starred in The Eleven O’Clock, are now potential Oscar contenders thanks to their comedic short film. Lawson, understandably, seemed pretty chuffed.

If I’m dreaming, please no one wake me up.
