‘MAFS’ Finale Pipped ‘The Bachelor’ To Pull In 2M Drama-Hungry Aussies

The ratings for Married At First Sight‘s season finale are in, and they’re considerably stronger than any of the relationships the show attempted to engineer.

According to Channel 9, an average of 1.98 million people caught part of yesterday’s closing episode, handily beating the ratings garnered by any other single episode of the turbo-drama spectacle.

This means that almost 9% of Australia‘s population tuned in, at some point, to watch Andrew “Jonesy” Jones continue to miss the memo regarding his cooked behaviour throughout the show.
The intrigue was shared across age groups, too. MAFS was the most watched show in its 7:30pm timeslot among the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.
What’s more is that MAFS has also defeated previous ratings juggernauts. For comparison, a still sizeable 1.3 million Aussies watched Richie Strahan and his jawline anoint Alex Nation as his partner in 2016’s The Bachelor finale.
All of this means you can expect to see more of the “experiment” in the coming months, even if we already know what results it will produce: a 50/50 mix of furtive human connection and outright disgust, and a shitload of voyeuristic viewers.
