The ‘CMBYN’ Director Says The OG Stars Will Return For The Sequel & Don’t Toy With Us Mate

Call Me By Your Name

After eons of chatter, it appears the Call Me By Your Name film sequel is still happening, according to its director Luca Guadagnino. We don’t have an official presser to work off here, but I dare say Guadagnino’s word is good.

The sequel to the 2017 film is still in the works, it’s just been temporarily delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Guadagnino told Italian publication, Gay.it, via IndieWire, that he was supposed to travel to America to speak to a writer about the sequel. But those plans were unfortunately cancelled. He also shared that the original actors will return for the sequel.

“I was going to America to meet a writer I love very much, whose name I don’t want to mention, to talk about the second part,” Guadagnino said. “Unfortunately, everything is cancelled. Of course, it’s a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet (Elio), Armie Hammer (Oliver), Michael Stulhbarg (Samuel), Esther Garrel (Marzia), and the other actors. They will all be there in the new film.”

I don’t doubt the sequel will happen, Guadagnino has been adamant about it happening in the past. But I don’t want to get my hopes up about the original cast returning until I see an official announcement. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, you can revisit the world of Elio and Oliver in Find Me, the book sequel to Call Me By Your Name. In the sequel, Elio’s father, Samuel, travels to Rome to visit his son who is now a gifted classical pianist. However, a chance encounter on the train with a beautiful young woman upends Sami’s visit and changes his life forever. Elio soon moves to Paris, where he, too, has a consequential affair, while Oliver, a New England college professor with a family, contemplates a return trip to where it all happened.

You can read more about the sequel by André Aciman on his website right here.
