Lionsgate Are Making A ‘Social Network’ Style TV Show About ‘Hatching Twitter’

Lionsgate TV overnight announced that they’d acquired the rights to a ‘Social Network’ style television adaptation of New York Times reporter Nick Bilton’s social media bildungsroman about Jack Dorsey’s own personal tech genesis and passive aggressive rich white men influencing the world in 140 characters or less from behind an LCD screen, Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship, and Betrayal.

Hatching Twitter was published only last month by Penguin, and prior to that was excerpted at length in The Times in October. A sampling of killer sentences soon to be coded into steely dialogue include: “You can either be a dressmaker or the C.E.O. of Twitter. But you can’t be both”; “‘This is our enemy,’ he yelled in front of the staff. ‘We need a war map. They’re going to attack us’” and  “The greatest product Jack Dorsey ever made was Jack Dorsey.”
And my favourite cliffhanger in the making: “He quickly considered the name “Vibrate,” which he nixed, but it led him to the word “twitch.” He dismissed that too, but he continued through the “Tw” section of the dictionary: twist, twit, twitch, twitcher, twitchy… and then, there it was. He read the definition aloud. “The light chirping sound made by certain birds.”
This is it, he thought. “Agitation or excitement; flutter.”
Twitter.”
