Lena Dunham Let Slip How ‘Girls’ Is Gonna End In A Post-Ep Interview

Even though Lena Dunham has somewhat fallen from favour thanks to the kinda bizarre shit she tends to say and do IRL, it’s indisputable that her magnum opus Girls is still a great show – and it’s currently hurtling towards its end. The only question most people are invested in is simple: will Adam and Hannah end up raising a bébé together?

Well, Dunham probably let slip the answer to that question – twice – in some of the promo around yesterday’s episode. ‘Let slip’ is probably a poor reading, as it’s clear she wanted to let fans know. Talking on the ‘Inside The Episode’ show after the main event, Lena revealed at least part of how the show is finishing.
Obviously SPOILER ALERT in case you somehow read this far unclear that you were about to read a spoiler:
That whole episode was really emotional to shoot because…I knew it was the last time [Adam Driver and I] were going to do any performing together.

If you watched the most recent ep, it’s definitely not entirely clear where their relationship progresses after that. As one Facebook commenter put it:

I totally did not get that Adam and Hannah were over. They were baby shopping together and talking about marriage and who will do what in the partnership and then she starts crying and then nothing… I had no idea until after they explained the episode.

I mean, you couldn’t get much clearer than Lena’s statement, though. If she’s not doing any more shooting with Adam Driver, then Adam will probably not show up again. Was this a delusional slip of the tongue? Probably not, because she backed it up with an Instagram post not long after:

#mondaymemory There is so much I could say about last night’s episode- the gut-wrenching sadness of being Hannah with Adam for the last time and how much he’s taught me about vulnerability, authenticity and the power of silence. I could talk about how every time Laird is on set I laugh til I weep and how that insane knit hat actually belonged to Jon’s now-deceased father and is our loving ode to Papa Glaser. But I’m going to focus on Jemima and her fearless performance. That scene in the bar bathroom with the amazing Neal Huff, set to @arianagrande’s Dangerous Woman (saddest pop music usage ever?) is one of the rawest and most tragic things we’ve ever shot. Jem held nothing back, just like she’s held nothing back since we met in the girl’s room in 1997. I’ll miss being able to force her into mohair bikini tops. I’ll miss it all.

So that’s a bust. What does happen to Hannah though? Only a few more eps left to find out.
