Lena Dunham Interviews Hillary Clinton, Asks, “Are You A Feminist?”

Making for an unashamedly HUGE teaser for Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner‘s Girls side project, Lenny Letter, Lena Dunham managed to wrangle air time with 2016 Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton – posting a video of the interview overnight.

Clocking in at just under a minute, Dunham gets straight to business to kick things off, asking, “Are you a feminist?” to Clinton – an obvious, but nonetheless important – question to ask of the candidate who could make history as the US’ first female President.

“Yes, absolutely!” says Clinton – making for a pretty delightful sixty seconds, on a discourse that gets far less air time than it should by other Presidential candidates. Clinton continues:

“I’m always a little bit puzzled when any woman of whatever age, but particularly a young woman, says something like, ‘well, I believe in equal rights but I’m not a feminist.’

Well, a feminist is by definition someone who believes in equal rights. I’m hoping that people will not be afraid to say, that doesn’t mean you hate men, it doesn’t you want to separate out the world, so you’re not a part of ordinary life — that’s not what it means at all! It just means that we believe that women have the same rights as men.”

TBH would watch an alternate version where HC says “nope” and Dunham rips her a new one. But we’ll take it.

Watch the interview below, and count the days until the interview’s full debut on September 29.
