LEGO Reps Female Scientists In New Limited Edition Kit

LEGO‘s got a new box set out in a minute, named “Research Institute“, which will recognise the women of science. The kit features an astronomer peering into her telescope, a chemist performing a lab experiment and a palaeontologist examining a dinosaur fossil.

The set was created by Swedish geochemist Ellen Koojiman, who said “As a female scientist, I had noticed two things about the available Lego sets: a skewed male–female mini-figure ratio and a rather stereotypical representation of the available female figures.”
She pitched the idea through the company’s LEGO Ideas page, which allows fans to suggest ideas for limited run kits. Proposals are only considered by the company if they get over 10,000 supporters, which means your Sonic The Hedgehog x Game Of Thrones fanfic is probably no closer to be immortalised in plastic bricks, but we’ve been wrong before.
In a statement, LEGO said “This awesome model is an inspiring set that offers a lot for kids as well as adults.” No word yet on when Research Institute will be available for the young scientist in your life’s birthday.
