Legendary Journo Ian ‘Roscoe’ Ross Dies At Age 73

The veteran award-winning journalist, newsreader and TV presenter affectionately known as ‘Roscoe’ has passed away surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.

After retiring from media in 2009 Ian Ross was diagnosed at the end of last year with cancer of the pancreas. He said of the ordeal, “I have decided that the only way to handle this friggin’ nightmare is to remain as positive about it as I possibly can and to get back to leading as ‘normal’ a life as possible.“

Roscoe went on to share his remaining time with friends, family and doing the things he enjoyed: “I’m still training at the gym, going for walks and doing the things I love to do, like meditating, which I have found very helpful. Ostensibly nothing has changed in my life … but we did take an emotional battering when we received the news, but we are dealing with it really well … we being my partner Gray and family.”

With an incredibly successful career spanning over five decades Roscoe became a much beloved household name and is, without a doubt, an Aussie national treasure.  Seven News has today said in a statement: “He was respected, trusted, and with a warm personality viewers loved. What you saw on television was the man behind the scenes. He was loved by everyone in the newsroom.”

Roscoe is survived by his three children, an ex-wife, his partner of 22 years and eight grand children. And as for the rest of us – our television screens just got a lot less charming.

R.I.P Roscoe
