Rob, the Kardashian that you always kind of forget is a Kardashian, has stepped up for his brother-in-law Lamar Odom, offering to donate a kidney to the beleaguered athlete.
Though Odom has awoken from a coma following his near-fatal drug overdose at a Nevada brothel, he suffered “major kidney failure”, and remains in treatment in LA’s Cedars-Sinai.
The athlete remains on dialysis, as at present, he is not yet healthy enough to receive a transplant, but when that time comes, Rob is reportedly happy to step up and donate one of his own.
As generous as the offer is, an actual Kardashian-Odom kidney transplant is still a long way off happening, as Hollywood Life‘s resident medical expert-slash-killer of dreams pointed out.
All potential donors must go through “rigorous immunological testing” to make sure that they’re a match, but to even secure a place on the transplant list, Odom would have to meet strict criteria.
These criteria would include good medical health, a long life expectancy, and a commitment to remaining drug-free. Given Odom’s circumstances, he could spend “several months to a year” on dialysis before being considered a worthy candidate.
Rob, whose scrappy bromance with Lamar is the stuff of dreams, posted the below throwback pic to Instagram last week:
