Bridesmaids duo Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo have been tapped to write a new movie for Disney, based on the evil stepsisters from Cinderella.
The film is in the very early stages of development, so there is no word yet on whether the pair will also star, but I’ll go ahead and say a big yes to that.
“The film is a fairy tale musical comedy that re-imagines the Cinderella classic from the point of view of her infamous evil stepsisters. Spanning their early childhood through the marriage of their universally beloved stepsister and beyond, we follow Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine as they struggle to uphold their family’s legacy.”
Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo’s friendship goes back a long way, and they earned their first Oscar nomination for collaborating on the Bridesmaids script.
This year, they collaborated on the deranged comedy Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar, about a pair of lifelong friends who finally leave their home town for a dream holiday.
Wiig was also seen recently as the villain Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984, and will soon start work on the upcoming TV series MacGruber 2.
