Kesha Says Sony Offered To End Contract If She Confessed Lying About Abuse

WARNING: This post discusses sexual assault.

The Kesha saga continues. In the midst of a very ugly legal battle, in which a court upheld a contract between the singer and Sony which compels her to work with Lukasz “Dr Luke” Gottwald, the producer she alleges sexually abused her, Kesha has posted an explosive allegation on Instagram.

She claims Sony offered her an exit from the contract if she publicly admitted that the allegations against Dr. Luke were lies.

so. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.

The entire situation is pretty ugly – with rumours about backroom deals to cancel the contract floating around for weeks – but this is the first time this particular condition has been raised. If true, not a good look for Sony.

A hearing for Kesha’s appeal has not yet been set. Her lawyer Mark Geragos hopes to argue that the contract is inhumane, and her contractual inability to produce music outside of a professional relationship with Dr. Luke has “killed her career.”
