Kendrick Lamar and fiancée Whitney Alford have welcomed their first child, a baby daughter, revealing the happy news on Friday.
The couple, who are famously very private, met while they were students at Centennial High School in Compton, and have been together since.
They have been engaged since April of 2015.
The 32-year-old rapper and the 33-year-old makeup artist did not announce her pregnancy prior to the birth, and have not made a statement since.
Kendrick Lamar has only occasionally spoken about his relationship in interviews. In early 2015, he opened up to Billboard about his connection to Alford, saying:
“I wouldn’t even call her my girl. That’s my best friend. I don’t even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion – she’s somebody I can tell my fears to.”
In a New York Times Magazine interview, he named Alford as someone he can always count on, saying “she’s been here since day one.”
