Keira Knightley Thinks A ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ Lesbian Sequel Would Be Rad

It has been 16 long years since Bend It Like Beckham came into our sad, sad lives and graced us with some “juicy, juicy mangoes”.

I was 7 at the time, and even I got the vibes that the two main characters, Jess and Jules, had something going on. That idea was obviously squashed by many who did the whole “think of the children” spiel, but I, actual child, thought the theory was stunning.

Anyway, genuine angel Keira Knightley has now confirmed that she’d be keen to see a lesbian sequel involving Jess and Jules.

During her latest interview with Pride Source, Knightley was asked about the rumour that Bend It Like Beckham had originally been written as a lesbian love story. In response to the popular belief that Jess and Jules should have coupled up at the end of the flick, Knightley agreed, and was enthusiastic about a Beckham reboot, lesbian style.

“F**k yeah! That would’ve been amazing,” she said. “I think they should’ve been too. I think that would’ve been great. We need a sequel.”

Real talk though: Knightley’s support for this fan theory is awesome, because we need to be seeing more openly-queer couples in mainstream films, rather than just mere rumours about a character’s sexuality behind closed doors and away from the camera. Also, Jess and Jules are iconic.

The people, and Keira, have spoken: WE. NEED. A. SEQUEL.
