Keanu Reeves Reportedly Passed On A ‘Captain Marvel’ Role For ‘John Wick 3’

John Wick

Suspected vampire Keanu Reeves reportedly almost starred in the forthcoming Captain Marvel flick, which would have finally given fans around the world what they want – Keanu Reeves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alas, it was not meant to be because of one John Wick.

According to The Hashtag Show‘s Charles Murphy, via Flickering MythReeves was actually supposed to star as Yon-Rogg – a role which ultimately went to Jude Law. Yon-Rogg is the commander of Starforce and Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers’ mentor.

Murphy revealed on Twitter that Reeves was set to play Yon-Rogg but had to pass on the role because of his commitments to the John Wick story.

Interestingly, Variety‘s Justin Kroll also tweeted about Reeves’ almost-part in Captain Marvel way back in late 2017.

In a thread sharing his article about Law’s casting, Kroll tweeted: “Fun fact, another actor who also considered the role before passing…Keanu.”

What could’ve been…

Although, nothing beats John goddamn Wick.

In John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum, Reeves returns as the lethal assassin who – after the events of the second film – has been excommunicated from the High Table. Now, with a $14 million bounty on his head, John must find a way to defeat a whole guild of international assassins.

Parabellum refers to the famous Latin phrase, ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum’, which translates to ‘If you want peace, prepare for war’. Considering we only have the tail end of the phrase here, let’s expect a lot of bodies.

John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum will hit cinemas, May 17. Hopefully, Australia cops it then too – or at least, in the same month.

As for Captain Marvel, expect that film to fly into cinemas on March 8.
