Kanye West Goes Deep On His Mental Breakdown And Recovery In Huge Interview

Kanye West has shared his full interview with Charlamagne tha God, posting the full one hour and forty-five minute video to his YouTube channel.

The video touches on many aspects of the artist’s life, including his mental breakdown, Barack Obama, President Donald Trump, and his plans for the future.

Discussing his decision to cancel dates on his 2016 Saint Pablo tour to seek help for his mental health, West said a combination of factors – including the robbery of his wife Kim Kardashian at Paris Fashion Week – contributed to his decision.

“All of these things were almost set up to put me on meds, to break me down,” Kanye said.

“The robbery… I don’t know where that came from. Was that a bigger plan, a bigger set-up? Also, being on stage four times a week, you know. You get exhausted up there.”

When asked if he sought additional help to process that turbulent period of his life, Kanye said “I use the world as my therapist. Anyone I talk to is my therapist.”

The muso delved into his perceptions of Obama, who famously called Kanye a “jackass” after hijacking the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs.

He said the former US President didn’t apologise for his assessment, but added “I just think that we were in a period where he had so much stuff to deal with, he couldn’t deal with a wildcard like me.”

On Trump – who has been a recent figure of note on Kanye’s revived Twitter feed – West said that he appreciates his no-fucks-given approach to traditional structures (read: the American political system) more than his distinct ideologies.

“It’s a time for the unconventional,” Kanye said. “I’m not a traditional thinker. I’m a non-conformist.”

Among those non-conformist ideals: an admission that he is working towards becoming “one of the biggest real-estate developers of all time.”
