Justin Timberlake, Larry David for ‘The Three Stooges’?

How many idiots does it take to cast Three Stooges?

More than two Farrelly Brothers, apparently. The screenwriting, directing and producing brothers, responsible for the awesome There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber (as well as ‘The Ringer’, but we won’t talk about that) have been threatening to recreate the golden era of Larry, Moe and Curly since the mid-’90s. Two years ago, it seemed like they were really close when they announced the dream team of Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro were ready to shoot. But then Penn stopped working for a while and the film changed studios and yada yada yada Hollywood.

The film has been variously described as ‘a real bitch’ and ‘development hell’ by those working on it, so the current breakthrough, which was unofficially tipped by The Boston Herald may be another in a long line of disappointments (or successes) for slapstick comedy fans. You can read about the film’s 13-year casting battle over here, but after all is said and done, Larry David is arguably a shoo-in for Moe; he’s definitely angry enough. As for JT playing the role, not so much, but he’d make a decent Larry, especially if he went back to his *NSync hairstyle of 1999. Since the Farrellys are clearly at a loose end.
