Disney’s #1 Squeeze Jon Favreau Is Writing A ‘Star Wars’ Streaming Series

Director Jon Favreau has just been announced as the writer and producer of a brand new live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s upcoming streaming platform, demonstrating the company’s serious intent to usurp Netflix‘s title as Streaming God.

Having the director of Iron Man, The Jungle Book, the upcoming The Lion King, and bloody Chef steer the biggest entertainment franchise of all time is an exciting proposition. There’s just one thing: Star Wars has hit the small screen in various incarnations over the years, but none of them have been live-action.

Godspeed, Jon. We all know fans said about poor Rian Johnson when he tried to take the Star Wars canon in a bold new direction.

Of course, Star Wars isn’t the only intellectual property Disney is giving the squeeze. It was revealed earlier that a new iteration of High School Musical will hit the service, along with a Monsters Inc. show.

The unnamed series will join also films from Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar when the streaming service shakes itself into existence next year.
