During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to hype his latest project, Disney’s The Lion King, Jon Favreau revealed he’s already working on the second season of his new live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

The director / actor / food enthusiast / sweetheart helmed the latest Disney remake and though he and Kimmel dedicated a huge chunk of the interview to the lions, they did slip in a little Star Wars chatter right at the end.

“We’re done with the first season. I’m actually writing part of the second season now, so I’m having a blast,” Favreau revealed.

This time around, Favreau is the writer and executive producer on the project while a slew of other directors step behind the camera. There’s Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Bryce Dallas Howard.

In Favreau’s words, The Mandalorian is about: “a bounty hunter, it’s after Return of the Jedi so the Empire is gone and all hell breaks loose in the Outer Rim and it’s about the scum and villainy that now, once you take out the rule of law, what happens? Chaos takes over.”

Narcos’ Pedro Pascal fronts the cast alongside Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man)and Nick Nolte (Warrior).

“It’s kind of like when you meet Han Solo at the beginning of Star Wars: A New Hope and you have the starport bar,” Favreau continued. “I always loved those characters, I always loved the rogues’ gallery of bounty hunters in Empire Strikes Back, and I always wanted to see more about it.”

And now we will.

The Mandalorian will premiere in America come November 12 on shiny new streaming service, Disney+. The giant hopes to launch the service in all other major regions over the next two years. We’ll just have to either be very patient or… well, you know.
