Comedian John Mulaney has confirmed he is divorcing his wife Anna Marie Tendler after six years of marriage.

Mulaney’s camp confirmed the news after Page Six broke the story, with sources telling the publication that Mulaney had asked for a divorce from Tendler three months ago.

“John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work,” a spokesperson for the comedian told Page Six.

Tendler, who is an artist, said through her representative, “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

In December, the former Saturday Night Live writer and Big Mouth star checked himself into rehab after relapsing, following a long-time battle with drugs and alcohol addiction.

He checked out in February this year and sources close to him said he was “doing well” in outpatient care.

The veteran comedian has previously opened up about his struggles, telling Esquire in 2019 that he started drinking alcohol when he was 13.

“I drank for attention,” Mulaney told Esquire. “I was really outgoing, and then at 12, I wasn’t. I didn’t know how to act. And then I was drinking, and I was hilarious again.”

He continued, “I never liked smoking pot. Then I tried cocaine, and I loved it. I wasn’t a good athlete, so maybe it was some young male thing of, ‘This is the physical feat I can do. Three Vicodin and a tequila and I’m still standing. Who’s the athlete now?’”

Mulaney said he first quit drugs and alcohol when he was 23, after he went on a bender and kept “fading in and out of a movie.”

“It was crazy. A weekend that was… there was… I’m never going to tell you. That’s mine. I didn’t kill anyone or assault anyone. But yeah, I was like, ‘You’re fucking out of control’. And I thought to myself, ‘I don’t like this guy anymore. I’m not rooting for him.’”

Mulaney and Tendler married in July 2014 in Boiceville, New York.
