John Cena Was “Protecting Himself” With 75-Page Contract Outlining Breakup

Wrestling superstar John Cena was only “protecting himself” by having fellow wrestling superstar and ex-fiancée Nikki Bella sign a humongous 75-page contract when they moved in together, People reports.

The document, which was a focal point of their reality TV show Total Divas, has come under new scrutiny after the couple’s high-profile split.

But a source claimed to the magazine that beneath all of that gnarly legal jargon – including a clause stating Bella was a “guest” in his home, and would need to pack her stuff immediately after a potential break-up – Cena was just trying to guard his ability to live as… well, a multi-millionaire pop culture phenomenon.

Describing Cena’s upbringing in a poor family, the source said the contract was put in place to ensure his continuing ability to provide for his extended crew, and that by making Bella sign it “he was making sure she’s not a gold digger”.

The issue was discussed in an episode of the show after Bella expressed her reticence. Cena said “I always tell [my family], I’m a horrible brother, but I try to be the best provider that I can. I just don’t want to ever be in a position where that’s in jeopardy.”

Bella issued a statement earlier this week addressing their split, saying “we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another.”

Cena has not issued a direct response, except for this:

Best of luck to both of them.
