Joel Edgerton Signs on For “Kill Bin Laden”

Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, the war obsessed duo behind ’09 Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, have settled on a leading man for their serendipitously timed Osama assassination flick, Kill Bin Laden. Animal Kingdom actor and rumoured lead Joel Edgerton has been announced as the first official cast member and will surf the zeitgeist as a US commando who embarks on an Osama assassination mission shortly after 9/11.

Reports the LA Times: “Australian Joel Edgerton will play a special operative in the picture, said two sources familiar with the project who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss it. The actor will be part of an ensemble of male commandos.”

In light of recent events screenwriter Boal was forced to change the script (which originally depicted the mission as unsuccessful) to a new version which ends with Bin Laden’s death. Edgerton next hits screens in September when he stars alongside Tom Hardy in UFC drama Warrior. Excellent work, Australia’s answer to Matt Damon.
