While we wait to see whatever the successor to Vine will be, the “stars” created by the app’s first iteration are finally starting to move onwards and upwards. Insanely viral Instagram/Vine/YouTube personality Joanne the Scammer is now officially the latest to land a standalone TV, and the pedigree of talent behind the project suggests this isn’t just gonna be some flash-in-the-pan or – gasp – Shit My Dad Says 2.0.
Joanne the Scammer, the character created by comedian Branden Miller, is being developed into a fully fledged TV series, and Chelsea Peretti has hopped on board to executive produce.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star, who is freakin’ wonderful, isn’t coming alone either. Internet-first production company Super Deluxe has tapped Parks & Rec scribe Joe Mande to pen the script for the series, which should only be good news to any of you familiar with either performer.
The project doesn’t have a broadcasting home at the moment, but given the pedigree of personnel on the project, coupled with just how many views Joanne’s various escapades have racked up online, it’s not much of a stretch to suggest that won’t be the case for long.
Miller spoke earlier in the year about what a potential jump to TV could have in store for Joanne, stating:
All I know is we start off with her being married to this rich, white older guy … or maybe he’s not even older. And he drops her, so she’s trying to get to that place again of being Caucasian—whatever she thinks that is. Instagram gives you one minute of that, the show will give you the whole storyline.
There ain’t much other info presently available other than what’s above. But one thing you can take solace in is the fact that this is real, this is happening, we are not lying.
