Jenna Dewan Tatum Breaks Silence On Rumours Of Drinking & Infidelity

There’s a cycle when it comes to celebrity break-ups: the announcement, the rumours, the “breaking silences” and the new partners. Today, we’ve reached Stage 3 in the Channing Tatum / Jenna Dewan Tatum saga: The Broken Silence.

Jenna Dewan Tatum has uttered some words about her and her husband’s split, following wildly unconfirmed reports that it was due to Channing’s drinking / flirting / general buffoonery [delete as applicable].

“Happy to clarify that absolutely none of these rumours are true,” she told the Daily Mail via a representative. “The reason our statement was so positive [was] because that’s the reality of the situation.”

The rumours were largely based off of old articles that referenced Channing’s drinking (“I probably drink too much. My wife, that’s what she bought into,” he told The Star in 2014) and rampant but unsubstantiated gossip about his supposed infidelity.

In response to these rumours, a ~source~ also told E! News:

“These are not issues, this is fiction. We understand that everyone is super interested in speculating on their private life and that there are people who think they have an idea of the inner life of this relationship, but it’s simply not the case. They are lovingly deciding to continue their lives together as friends and parents of Everly because that’s how their relationship has grown.”

A statement from the couple – signed “Chan&Jenna” and produced on some nightmare inducing word art background – announced their separation earlier this week.

“We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and had had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets or salacious events at the root of our decision – just two best friends realising it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.”

Within hours of that statement, sleuths had already uncovered hints Jenna was dropping in an interview just a month earlier, where she stressed that their relationship was not “perfect” and that they fought “like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don’t really like each other.”

A source has also revealed to PEOPLE that they’d tried to work on their marriage for quite some time before making the decision to split.

“The separating was a long time coming. They both took a long time to work on their marriage and to figure out what they wanted. It’s not anything rushed. The fact that they get along is everything.

“They will continue to be the best parents to [their four-year-old daughter] Everly. Like other couples, they have had arguments and disagreements, but they were always very conscious about giving their daughter lots love and a great life.”

The couple met on the set of Step Up and have been together for the nine years ever since. Well, until now, we suppose.
