Jason Momoa Is The Latest Big Name Set To Join The Ridic Cast Of ‘Dune’

The upcoming film Dune, Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of the cult classic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, has been drip-feeding us news of an increasingly great cast over the past few weeks, slowly cranking the accelerator on the hype train. And now there’s more! According to VarietyAquaman star Jason Momoa is the latest big name set to join the project.

So where are we now, exactly? If Momoa signs on, he’ll be joining a cast which includes Timothee Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, and Zendaya. That’s so far. The novel is  a sprawling epic overflowing with characters, and it really seems like Villeneuve and producers are set in installing as many hyped names into that mix.

Momoa is set to play the swordsman Duncan Idaho, because he is clearly well-versed in playing large men who are good at wielding blades of various descriptions. Some say that’s typecasting, I merely call it destiny.

Villeneuve has led a critically acclaimed career over the past few years, and is perhaps best known for directing Blade Runner 2049Sicario and Arrival.

Dune has been adapted before – once by David Lynch, and also as several SyFy television series. It’s generally considered a very difficult book series to adapt due to its huge cast of characters and complex lore. But however Villeneueve does it, we can all be assured it will at the very least look incredibly nice.
