Our phasers were already set to KEEN after The Wire creator David Simon announced his newest HBO venture, The Deuce; today’s first casting announcement, however, officially tips things to the next level.
James Franco is set to channel Lindsay Lohan’s magnum opus and play a set of twins for the series – taking on two roles in Simon’s exploration of the 70’s porn industry in New York City.
You know exactly where this could go.
But this is David Simon, FFS. Show some respect.
In The Deuce, Franco x deux are “players in the Times Square world [who] became fronts for Mob control of the volatile and lucrative sex industry from its origins.”
Per its official synopsis, The Deuce “follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world that existed in midtown Manhattan until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market all ended the bawdy turbulence.”
Beyond The Deuce, David Simon has a second HBO drama in the works: a series set in Capitol Hill, exploring the relationship between money, corruption and government, has also been greenlit.
