Isla Fisher In Talks For ‘The Great Gatsby’ Role

Word has it that diminutive Summer Bay graduate Isla Fisher is in talks to join the cast of Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby, set to be filmed in Sydney later this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (and in a spectacular display of disregard for the rules of the Spoiler Alert), “Fisher will play Myrtle, a married woman having an affair with [Tom] Buchanan. She is later killed by a speeding car, an event that leads to the book’s tragic ending.”

Fisher is a fabulous choice to play the brassy alcoholic city girl Myrtle – one of the few characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s prohibition-era text to provide some comic relief and one who, if played to comic-tragic perfection, would be Oscar bait for the actress in the role.

The casting rumours come the same day as the sad confirmation that Ben Affleck will not be playing the role of Tom Buchanan, as previously reported, which is a shame. We so would have witness the retina burning weirdness that would have been a drunk sex scene starring Affleck and Isla Fisher.
