In excellent news, Luther frontman Idris Elba has said the upcoming season of the popular crime drama will not be the last for the one and only DCI John Luther.

“This season is not the end,” Elba told Empire“But there are some real changes that will happen.”

Hmmm.

Whether this be another season or a potential Luther movie, we’ll just have to wait and see. But, Elba did say “our ambition is it falls on the scale of Seven.”

Sevenstarring Brad Pitt, is a 1995 mystery flick which tells the story of a retiring detective who takes a young’n under his wing on his final case. This final case? Tracking down an unhinged serial killer.

Sounds about right.

As for season five, it is a tad short with just four episodes but if the trailer’s anything to go by, we’re in for a bloody twisted ride and a half.

Considering there’s only four episodes, it appears season five will concentrate on just one particular case – a serial killer who wears a terrifying clown-or-baby-face mask.

Not to mention your fave psychopath/malignant narcissist Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) has returned – you catch her right at the end of the trailer for a split second. Her return has thrown fans into a frenzy considering she supposedly died off-screen, last season.

Wunmi Mosaku also joins the cast as new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday.

There’s yet to be an official release date for season five although a bunch of publications are reporting that it’ll hit BBC during the Christmas period.

I’ve written it before but I’ll write it again – those few seconds of the killer bloody crawling on the bus is disturbing as hell.

Find Luther seasons one to four on Netflix now.

Earlier this month, BBC also shared this delightful teaser of Luther getting the crap beaten out of him by George Cornelius (Patrick Malahide) and his mates.
