The Man Behind Humans Of New York, Brandon Stanton, Is Coming To Sydney

Brandon Stanton, creator of the hugely popular Humans of New York photography series, is coming to Australia for the first time ever to talk all things HONY.

He’ll be doing a one-off talk at the Sydney Opera House, talking about his best and worst moments, how Humans of New York really got started, and how he’s built a wildly successful career with a camera, an internet connection, and no photography or journalism training to speak of.

“Brandon Stanton has individually spearheaded an international internet phenomenon,” said Edwina Throsby, Head of Talks and Ideas at the Sydney Opera House. “We are so pleased to be providing Sydneysiders with this unique opportunity to hear the stories behind the stories direct from the source.”

If you’ve somehow never lost an hour or two on his Instagram or Facebook feed – and we’d be shocked, given the several millions of followers he boasts – then HONY has become synonymous with finding and celebrating the humanity in all of us.

His work has taken him to the White House (to interview Barack Obama), inside the exclusive Met Gala, and to Pakistan, Iran, and the frontlines of the global refugee crisis.

He’s also raised millions  to help end bonded labour in Pakistan, for public education, and for paediatric cancer research. Oh, and he launched a TV show last year. You know, no big deal.

One thing he hasn’t done, however, is give our very own Hamish Blake the interview he deserves. Something needs to be done about that, asap.

Brandon will be speaking on Saturday 10 February, 2018 at the Sydney Opera House. Tickets are $29 + booking fee, and go on sale this Friday at 9am. Find out more here.
