Christ-a-fucking-live. Just when you thought the Harry Potter spin-off film ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them‘ could be on any shakier ground to prove it’s worth being made, Johnny Depp gets cast in it.
Deadline reports that Depp will be playing a co-starring role in the David Yates-directed sequel, opposite Eddie Redmayne‘s Newt Scamander.
However, it also reports that Depp might even appear as a cameo role in the first film, out November 18.
Fan speculation is currently running rampant that he’ll be playing original evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald, making a nice change from the five roles he’s played since 1994. Also, WTF.
“Johnny Depp may be playing Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts sequel” [michael scott’s voice] NO GOD PLEASE NO

In a featurette out earlier this month, J.K. Rowling dropped mad hints that Grindelwald is appearing in the upcoming film (though the character doesn’t appear on IMDb.)
“In Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’, you’re learning about a part of magical history that’s talked about in the Potter books, but you never see,” she says, as newspaper clippings about Grindelwald appear on screen. “I’m getting a chance to tell that now.”
Sources close to the production confirmed to Hypeable that footage of a wizard with a fuckboi haircut is indeed Grindelwald.
Is this the back of Johnny Depp’s head?
Harry Potter fans are beyond livid with the casting news.

I’m livid about the Johnny Depp casting. It’s revealed that you attacked and abused your wife and then you get this? No. Absolutely not.

glad we’re all in agreeance that Warner Bros. grossly miscalculated public perception of Johnny Depp in 2016

J.K. Rowling hasn’t yet confirmed that she’s banished Depp from touching the franchise with a ten-foot broomstick, but she hasn’t not not confirmed this. Stay hopeful.
