That How I Met Your Mother spinoff that they’ve been teasing for ages is finally a-go. Hulu has announced that they’re churning out a spinoff series called How I Met Your Father starring your girl Hilary Duff.

The project has copped a straight-to-series order from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, Deadline reports.

Hilary Duff, who recently wrapped filming on the final season of Stan exclusive series Younger, plays Sophie, who tells her son the story of how she met his father, much like Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby did in the OG series.

The story starts in 2021 where Sophie and her tight group of mates are going through the pitfalls of life, again, much like the group in the OG series.

Hulu has ordered 10 episodes with Aptaker and Berger back as creators, writers and exec producers. Hilary Duff is also set to produce the series, which I absolutely love for her.

It’s been a long road for this project, which was first written back in 2014 and, at the time, starred Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver. But sadly, the first incarnation of the show was not picked up.

Then two and a half years down the line, Aptaker and Berger created a new fresh take on the show with You’re the Worst writer Alison Bennett, but the studio didn’t go for that one either.

But now Hulu is on the case and to quote my favourite Aries Kate Hudson in her hit film Almost Famous, “It’s alllllll happening!”

Hilary Duff recently gushed about the news in a series of vids on Insta:

Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, called How I Met Your Mother one of the “most innovative and beloved comedies” on TV.

“Isaac and Elizabeth have an inspired take on this new version that honours what Carter and Craig created with the original and moves the franchise forward. Isaac and Elizabeth have proven to be rich storytellers and great partners to us at Hulu Originals and across the Walt Disney Company family.

“Coupled with the passion and infectious energy Hilary brings to every role she takes on, we can’t wait to suit up and bring audiences How I Met Your Father.”

How I Met Your Mother is now streaming on Stan, if ya feel like a sweet binge sesh.
