‘House Of Cards’ Producer Teases Possible Spin-Offs For Two Characters

House Of Cards has faced an unprecedented situation going into its sixth season, following the departure of star Kevin Spacey, who was fired amid a maelstrom of sexual assault and harassment allegations. In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, the show’s producers praised “force of nature” Robin Wright, who has stepped up to a leadership role following Spacey’s departure, and also hinted at possible spin-offs we might see once the show ends.

Executive producer Daniel Minahan said that once Cards wraps up, there are two characters in particular who might be ripe for their own new shows. “I don’t want to get into trouble but I kind of feel that Boris McGiver who plays [Tom Hammerschmidt], the journalist at the Washington Post will be the most likely spin off character, he is one of the most wonderful actors they have there.”

He also said that Michael Kelly, who plays fixer Doug Stamper, might have the potential to lead a show of his own. “Michael Kelly created an amazing character. I would be happy to work with Michael and Boris,” Minahan told the publication.

There is no word yet on when or if these potential spin-offs might happen, or what form they will take, but who knows? Will Netflix turn Doug Stamper into the host of a competitive baking show where everyday people have hilarious fails while recreating complex cakes? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.

Minahan also praised the streaming service’s decision to continue the show with Wright as its lead star, saying:

“I was really pleased to hear that they were going to continue for another season regardless of what has happened with Kevin. I feel like season five ended with the president in exile, and I feel that given everything else that is happening in the world right now, Robin Wright is the most compelling actress I have ever worked with. And I am dying to see what she does with the final season. I have complete confidence in everyone at Netflix that they did the right thing.”

The sixth and final season of House Of Cards will have eight episodes, some of which are to be directed by Wright herself, and will premiere in “late 2018.”
