OHMYGOD do we really have to go through this again? SPOILERS, okay?!! All the spoilers!!! Stop reading this if you’re not up-to-date!!!!!!! Cool.
So, despite whoever’s wielding the big control room over at Game of Thrones HQ choosing very deliberately to keep Jon Snow‘s real father a secret, we now have confirmation from inside HBO itself.
Quick recap: in the Tower of Joy scene, we see Lyanna Stark drenched in blood and sweat (or ‘salt’, for those playing along with theories at home) asking her big bro Ned to promise her something. She hands him a baby, and says “His name is…” – AND THEN THE NAME IS MUFFLED. [This wild fan theory reckons the muffled name is Jaehaerys, i.e. Jon Snow’s real, Targaryn name.]
The cutaway from the lil’ bub’s face to Jon Snow’s confirms that yes, Jon IS Lyanna Stark’s child, and anything else would be a misdirection the likes we haven’t seen since Scabbers turned out to be murderin’ Peter Pettigrew.
So while we *had* confirmation ?+L=J, we couldn’t be certain that ?=R, i.e. that Jon’s daddy is Rhaegar Targaryn.
Er, until now.
Game of Thrones writers have produced a big ol’ infographic of just how 20 of the key players of Westeros are linked, with lines running back and forth showing who is married to, allies with, serves, guardian of, parent of, siblings of, or is responsible for abducting or killing who.
And in no uncertain terms it shows that Jon Snow is the child of Rhaegar Targaryn.
