Hilaria Baldwin Has Sorta Apologised For That Time She Spent Years Pretending To Be Spanish

Hilaria Baldwin

A few weeks back, Alec Baldwin‘s wife Hilaria Baldwin was caught out in an embarrassing little oopsie, when the internet learned she had spent years lying about her Spanish heritage and faking her Spanish accent as some kind of bizarre rich person parlour game.

In late December, Baldwin was called out in fairly spectacular fashion, when it was revealed that her actual name is Hillary and she hails from Massachusetts, meaning her gimmick of going on TV shows and forgetting the English word for cucumber was all an act.

After several weeks of social media silence, Baldwin retuned to Instagram overnight, and offered a selection of words in the vague sorta shape of an apology, writing:

“I’ve spent the last month listening, reflecting, and asking myself how I can learn and grow. My parents raised my brother and me with two cultures, American and Spanish, and I feel a true sense of belonging to both. The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained – I should have been more clear and I’m sorry. I’m proud of the way I was raised, and we’re raising our children to share the same love and respect for both. Being vulnerable and pushing ourselves to learn and grow is what we’ve built our community on, and I hope to get back to the supportive and kind environment we’ve built together.”

I mean, the phrase “I’m sorry” is definitely in there, so if the Hilaria Baldwin saga was a movie, those are probably the words you’d pick out for the poster.

I’m not sure how much of this is actual genuine remorse and how much is just waffling Alexis Neiers-style non-apology, but anyway, you can see her full post below:
