Over the weekend, at the GLAAD Awards in Los Angeles, Kerry Washington was presented with a Vanguard Award, traditionally given to a celebrity who has been an ally to the LGBT community.
“On Monday morning,” she began, “people are going to click a link to hear what that woman from Scandal said at that award show, so I think some stuff needs to be said.”
From there, she kicked all kinds of goals, talking about the importance of diverse representation in the media, and how we need to keep breaking new ground until there are no longer “firsts.”
