Henry Cavill Is In Talks To Star In A Highlander Reboot & I Am Tartan Myself Up Already

Everyone’s favourite Hollywood boyfriend Henry Cavill is reportedly in talks to star in Lionsgate’s reboot of cult classic Highlander.

The reboot, which will be directed by John Wick‘s Chad Stahelski, has reportedly been in development for almost ten years.

If you’re unfamiliar with Highlander (how dare you) the 1986 fantasy/action behemoth follows a bloke called Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert doing a terrible accent), who’s born in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century and just so happens to be immortal. He has to fight other immortal beings to the death (by beheading!) until only one of them remains. Hijinks ensue all the way up to 1985. Also Sean Connery is in it, wearing some very fetching eyeliner.

While it was a bit of a box office flop, the film quickly garnered cult status, and millions of nerdy little monsters have happily run around ever since screeching the tagline at each other while trying to chop each other’s heads off with bits of stick: “There can only be one.”

Or can there! Now that Cavill is in talks to lead the reboot, we may have to come to terms with the fact that there could possibly be… two? Or more? I don’t pretend to understand the inner workings of Hollywood reboots, everyone seems to be guided by leylines and bird portents as to how many sequels get made and in what order. Also the original movie already has like three sequels and at least one TV show so it feels a bit like they’ll be short on material, not that that’s ever stopped anyone in god damn Hollywood – ANYWAY –

Now that it’s 35 years after the original Highlander premiered, it seems only right that Stahelski should get his reboot opportunity. We still don’t know if it’ll be a remake of the original story or some kind of spinoff – all we know is that Henry Cavill is unrivalled in the Hot Fantasy Action Hero realm and we are champing at the tartan to see him in this one.
