Heartbreaking Andy Irons Memorial Draws Thousands

Friends, family and members of the international surfing community gathered in Hawaii’s Hanalei Bay last Sunday to honour three-time world surfing champion Andy Irons who died at the age of 32 earlier this month. The surfing icon was given a beautiful memorial befitting of his life with brother Bruce leading a convoy of close to a thousand surfers to encircle a double-hull canoe that carried Andy’s wife Lyndie, his parents and his close friends. It’s hard to not get emotional when Iron’s pregnant wife scatters his ashes into the ocean but the memorial, a stunning celebration of life, is undeniably uplifting too. RIP Andy Irons.
