The HBO CEO Has Seen ‘GoT’ Season 8 Without CGI & Was Still “In Awe” Of It

HBO boss, Richard Plepler, told Variety that he’s seen the final six episodes of Game of Thrones and that they’re pretty fucking alright. In fact, he said he was “in awe,” despite only seeing a rough cut of each episode without any CGI.

Speaking with the publication during a Golden Globes afterparty, Plepler said that “everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production.”

“It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, ‘I’m watching a movie,’“ he continued.

I know the guy works for HBO and all, but I think his words still carry weight, particularly when he’s “watched them twice without any CGI”. Twice with nothing but green dragon puppets and they still whip sack. I believe it.

He went on to praise showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for their work, saying that “they knew the bar was high,” and that “they’ve exceeded” said bar.

To recap real quick: each of the 6 episodes feels like watching a movie, they all kick ass, even without CGI, and the head of HBO is in awe after watching all of them twice. Yep, sounds pretty fucking good to me.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones airs in April this year. Expect nothing short of absolute carnage.
