Has Girlfriend Mag Found Another Top Model?

Girlfriend magazine is steered toward the 12-15 female age group – pumping out the requisite teen girl content of how-to pashing guides, shirtless man pinups, and bikini and ‘know your shape’ summer bikini manuals; but among a thwart of recycled teen schtick Girlfriend and its annual modeling competition can boast the highest success rate of any other Australian-run modeling platform going.

Unlike other contests (Australia’s Next Top Model, Make Me A Supermodel, etc) Girlfriend’s model search, now in its 20th year, has an alumni of contestants who’ve earned their stripes in the real modeling world. Past winners or runners up include Abbey Lee Kershaw, Catherine McNeil, Alyssa Sutherland, Samantha Harris and Ruby Rose.

Voting for the 2010 competition is closing next week and we’ve taken a look at the finalists. The six girls (photos below) range in ages from 13 to 16 years of age, and they have either been styled to look incredibly fresh and young or someone at Girlfriend has the remarkable foresight to see a future top model amongst them.

Jemma Baines: 16, SA

Bridget Hollitt: 13, VIC

Loren Harrison-Gorton: 15, SA

Tiffany Adcock: 14, NSW

Jacqui McGrath: 15, NSW

With many of these industry favourites with covetable international print /runway and commercial/editorial careers, these girls have proven competion’s ability to truly recognise modelling talent. This year’s 6 state finalists all do have potential but there are obvious forerunners: Jacqui looks a lot like a young Liberty Ross and we can definitely see Tiffany channeling the Givenchy girl on runways in the future.

Do you think one of these girls be our next major Australian fashion export?
