Harry Styles Interviewed Timothée Chalamet And Our Hearts Can’t Handle It

What the internet wants, the internet will have, and the internet has wanted Timothée Chalamet and Harry Styles to collaborate on something, anything, since both of those delicate heartthrobs ascended to the pinnacles of their creative landscapes.

Now, two of the most notable figures in pop culture have discussed their hopes, dreams, creative processes, and assessments of traditional masculinity in a wide-reaching phone conversation for i-D.

The enlightening convo finds both Chalamet, 22, and Styles, 24, express their appreciation for the other’s work.

After voicing his appreciation for Beautiful Boy, the upcoming flick in which Chalamet portrays a young man struggling with addiction, the Oscar-nominee praised Styles for his own turn in Dunkirk.

“Oh man, I really hope you act in something else,” Chalamet said, which is high praise coming from someone whose career is already white-hot.

“Because, I don’t know if it means anything from me, but I thought you were really fucking excellent in that movie.”

After expressing his gratitude, Styles turned the conversation towards one of the duo’s defining aspects: the perception that each represents a kinder, more sensitive approach to masculinity, that doesn’t ascribe to traditional power dynamics.

“There isn’t a specific notion, or jean size, or muscle shirt, or affectation, or eyebrow raise, or dissolution, or drug use that you have to take part in to be masculine,” Chalamet said.

“It’s exciting. It’s a brave new world.”

Styles agreed. “I think there’s so much masculinity in being vulnerable and allowing yourself to be feminine, and I’m very comfortable with that,” he said.

It wasn’t all ruminations on their creative processes and places in the pop cultural conscience, though. Styles straight-up asked Chalamet if he can still eat peaches after that scene in Call Me By Your Name.

The answer: yes. Chalamet can still eat peaches.

The blessed discussion covers David Bowie, politics, Lil B, the upcoming Dune film, social media use, a quick reference to One Direction, and Chalamet’s pyjama choices. If you’re keen to see those blokes riff on each other, and you should be, you can scope out the full chat HERE.
