Halle Bailey has reacted to the news that she will be playing Ariel in Disney‘s live action The Little Mermaid, saying that the role is a “dream come true.”

The young actress and singer took to the Chloe x Halle Instagram account to share her joyous response, along with a reimagined version of a classic Ariel image:

The Little Mermaid director Rob Marshall said of the casting:

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance – plus a glorious singing voice – all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

Actress Halle Berry also responded gleefully to the news, congratulating the 19-year-old and saying “in case you needed a reminder … Halles get it DONE.”

Halle Bailey and her sister Chloe began their careers doing covers of pop songs on YouTube, and the duo caught the attention of Beyoncé, making cameo appearances on her Lemonade visual album.

They served as the opening act for the European leg of Bey’s Formation world tour, and also opened for her and husband Jay-Z on the American leg of the On The Run II tour.

Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are reportedly in talks to star in The Little Mermaid, with the former in talks to play the seagull Scuttle.

Melissa McCarthy is also in the running for role of the iconic villain Ursula.
