From Backlash Over A Mecca Event To A Cursed Goop Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow Is Having A Time™

Full disclosure: I’m actually a huge fan of Gwyneth Paltrow and find her controversial lifestyle brand Goop to be intriguing, but I don’t know if it’s admiration or pure fascination at the abject spectacle of it all.

The actress has been embroiled in two scandals (that I know of) over the last week, both of which I thought would be an interesting read to my fellow lovers of chaos.

The first one literally hits close to home as it involves an Aussie event that has been called out for hiring Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Guardian reports that after local beauty brand Mecca announced Paltrow as the keynote speaker for their upcoming virtual wellness summit, Mecca Life, they became pummelled with backlash from fans and medical professionals.

Cardiothoracic surgeon and author Dr Nikki Stamp took to the Facebook page of the event to slam the makeup juggernaut for partnering with Gwyneth Paltrow and her brand as both have been known to “peddle enormous amounts of misinformation and make money by preying on women’s insecurities.”

“Every time we endorse this behaviour, we allow it to continue. Mecca has always been a champion for women so now, when women are at risk, will you step up to the plate and cancel this terrible event? Or will you let Australian women be further exposed to her nonsense?” she added.

Another one of the comments from an angry fan reads: “Selling makeup is one thing, but peddling woo like this is another. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere if you continue to peddle this dangerous woo.”

But wait, there are more troubles on the high seas (literally) as Gwyneth Paltrow has also been slammed for reviving the Goop Cruise which was delayed due to COVID.

The actress celebrated the return of the wellness-themed cruise that’s intended to set sail in 2022, just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water.

“I am always happiest by, in or on the sea! In 2022 my @goop team and I are going to join @celebritycruises on their new ship, Celebrity Beyond,” she wrote on Instagram.

“My team @goop is curating programming and fitness kits to add to Celebrity’s wellness experience. I’m sworn to secrecy on the rest — keep an eye out for the details coming soon,” she teased.

The ship was first scheduled to depart from Barcelona and sail around the Mediterranean over the course of 11 days in August last year but was obvs delayed and, frankly, should have been shit-canned altogether. C’mon, Gwyneth Paltrow. Read the room.

No idea what the so-called wellness cruise will entail, but I’m sure there’ll be jade eggs aplenty.

Goop grief.
