Donald Glover And Rihanna’s ‘Guava Island’ Is Here To Delight Your Senses

Guava Island

Donald Glover and Rihanna‘s long-awaited Guava Island arrived overnight, after its world premiere in a specially constructed theatre at the Coachella festival.

Though he’d been teasing the project for a while, and we weren’t even sure what we were going to get, those who’ve already seen it say that it is an hour-long hybrid of short film and music video.

The film, described as a “tropical thriller” inspired by movies like City Of God, was shot on location last year in Havana, and was directed by Hiro Murai, who has also worked on Atlanta.

In the film, Donald Glover plays a musician whose attempts to start a music festival for his island community take “unexpected turns”, while Rihanna plays his girlfriend.

While it had been hoped that Guava Island might bless us with some new Rihanna music, she’s in it purely as an actress, and all the music comes courtesy of Childish Gambino.

You can stream the movie for free for a limited time over on Amazon, and check out a brief clip of the characters Deni and Kofi below.
