‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recruits Josh Radnor To Play Meredith’s New Love Interest

In news for the five people – and your mum – who still watch Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother‘s Josh Radnor has joined the cast of Shonda Rhimes‘ long-running medical soap to play the part of Meredith Grey‘s new love interest.

Sad news for those of us who were hoping to see Ellen Pompeo as Grey finally bone Giacomo Gianniotti‘s DeLuca, or were hoping to see her fall for the charms of the gross new self-proclaimed ‘Ortho God’/Luke from The O.C.Chris Carmack.

But good news for anyone hoping Mer would find real adult love after McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey, still the most handsome) died in season 11. (STILL EXTREMELY TRIGGERING.)

The story goes that Radnor will turn up on this week’s ep as Mer’s blind date. Spoilers: since the start of the show’s 15th season late last month, she reluctantly engaged the services of a matchmaker who is also her patient. This set-up might just be Cece (Caroline Clay)’s doing.

Grey’s showrunner Krista Vernoff spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Grey finally being ready to find love again. She explained that that any romance after Derek’s horrific death was but a rebound – including the one with the handsome Riggs (Martin Henderson).

Now she’s really single, she’s past the intense, initial grief. Derek will always be with her – in her heart and in the faces and hearts of their kids – but he’s gone and she’s still here and at the end of the season premiere she’s admitting that she wants more. She’s agreeing with Cece, the matchmaker, that there is no cap on happiness. That she can be happy with her career and her kids but having someone to share it all with might be really nice. And that means putting herself out there in a whole new way. Actually seeking love. That’s brand new.

You know what, Mer? You go find love. You go find love outside of the pool of horny Grey Sloan Memorial surgeons you have known for the last 15 years.
