Rumours Are Flying That Gretel Killeen Will Be Back To Host The ‘Big Brother’ Reboot

Gretel Killeen

When it comes to Big Brother hosts, Gretel Killeen is the original and the best, so she should be the obvious first choice to host the reboot, which lands next year on Seven.

While nothing has officially been announced, there are rumours swirling around about her return, with The Daily Telegraph claiming that she “has been signed to host” the show.

Many were apparently expecting Seven to announce the news at their upfronts this week, and although they did not, the Tele’s “television insiders” seem to reckon it’s a done deal.

Is this actually for real? Did Gretel’s people just plant the story to get some buzz going around a possible hosting gig or put pressure on Seven to sign her up?

Frankly, I don’t care. Bring her back and give her whatever she wants, especially if it means we get to experience more iconic TV moments like this:

Gretel Killeen hosted the original Aussie version of Big Brother from 2001-2007, while Sonia Kruger and Kyle Sandilands both took up the role in later seasons.

Seven are said to have been interested in Kruger and former contestant Chrissie Swan for hosting duties, but have apparently landed on Gretel.

Killeen appeared on The Kyle And Jackie O Show earlier this year and seemed enthusiastic about the idea of a reboot, saying:

“I think the essence of Big Brother is brilliant because when we first started that show it was about just watching humans interact without interference, just seeing what humans do. It wasn’t ‘Who’s going to win?’ It was: Let’s just see what relationships form and how people pass their time and converse.

I think watching ourselves is something we could actually learn from now. I think this is a time of analysis and introspection and redefining our values, so I think it would be a hoot.’

We will await further news on the rebooted Big Brother hosting gig.
