A Redditor has noticed a tiny detail about Davos Seaworth from the second episode of ‘Game of Thrones‘ season seven that will break your goddamn heart.
In ‘Stormborn‘, Tyrion sends a letter to Jon asking him to come to Dragonstone, and Jon in turn shares the letter with Davos and Sansa.
“As Sansa is reading the letter, you can see Davos peering over the letter, trying to read what it says,” the Redditor FourEyed_Raven writes. “And that is when I realised he is not moving his lips anymore, thanks to Shireen.”
Shireen was Stannis Baratheon‘s daughter, who taught the illiterate Davos how to read.
“Davos then takes the letter himself and reads it with full confidence and without stumbling on any of the words,” the Redditor continued. “I just thought that was a huge nod to Shireen and her relentlessness to make Davos literate and in-turn, a better Hand. She had a profound impact on his life, and it just makes thinking about her death and his reaction to it so much more heartbreaking.”
With the encouragement of Melisandre, Stannis burnt his own daughter alive believing it would help him become Azor Ahai, a.k.a. the prince that was promised.
Excuse us while we sob forever.
