There’s been a whole lotta chatter about *that* Game of Thrones sex scene between Gendry and Arya, both from online punters and from the Night King slayer herself, Maisie Williams, and now the IRL Gendry, Joe Dempsie has put his two cents in.

Speaking to Esquire during a v. stylin’ shoot, the 31-year-old said that the scene made him quite uncomfortable, purely because he’s known Williams since she was a wee youngster.
“It was strange for me having known [Maisie] since she was 11 or 12 years old and being asked to play out a scene like that,” he explained. “That discomfort I had initially seemed to have been shared by quite a lot of people who have watched that episode, too.”

He adds that fans have been badgering him about Gendry and Arya’s relationship for years.
“The most common thing Thrones fans have wanted to talk to me about over the years was this suggested relationship with Arya,” Dempsie said. “I was always found that conversation quite uncomfortable at the time, particularly in the early years.”
He adds, “I was a 25-year-old man being asked whether I would like my character to get together with an at-the-time 14-year-old actress.”

“It was always something I thought wasn’t fair to ask me personally … I felt there needed to be an understanding that even though what we’re making is fantasy, actual execution of that had to take place in reality. It was never really something I gave much thought to.”
After the episode, loads of fans took to Twitter to comment on how the age gap between the couple made the union seem unnerving for them.
In response to the neggo reaction from fans, Williams fired off the following sassy tweet:
