GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE: Matt Groening Is Brewing A New Show For Netflix

If you’re look at a very simple, bare-bones version of Matt Groening‘s career resumé, it doesn’t make for a very long read.

Two primary jobs since 1987 at two television shows. And some work on one theatrically-released feature film in between.
Although when you’re the genius who managed to create both The Simpsons and Futurama, you probably don’t need your resumé to be anything else but a single sheet of paper with the sentence “I created The Simpsons and Futurama” on it in big, bold lettering.
The point here is that Groening’s track-record when it comes to creating shows is beyond legendary, so anytime the whispers of a new Groening-created show start up, it’s well worth your time to pay attention.
And the scuttlebutt ’round the ole’ water cooler is that streaming behemoth Netflix is in advanced talks to bring Groening‘s talents to the internet, with a new potential animated series reportedly being discussed.
Variety states that the deal would see Groening develop a series for the streaming platform, with an immediate 2-season, 10-episode each order – a necessary evil to better offset the high cost of producing an animated series.
The project is, at this stage, obviously has very little details available. But given the fact that his last two attempts at show creation resulted in inarguably two of the most influential and beloved television series of all time – including one that has literally shaped the way modern society has developed – you’d be inclined to suggest that its prospective success is a no-brainer.
Groening and Netflix have yet to make any public statements on the deal.
