Gold Coast Bulletin Trolls With PM Position Listed As ‘Vacant’ Job

First Russell’s signature Brand of fiery cynicism and outrage was found breathing down the neck of ole’ Tone, now the frightening, ball-busting wrath of The Gold Coast Bulletin has been released upon Abbott like a swarm of pollie-hungry locusts, via a page one smackdown today.

The humble depths of reddit Australia has informed us of this front page gem, in which “Prime Minister of Australia” and “Premier Of Queensland” are listed as job “VACANCIES”.

Et tu, Abbott?

Trololol, says the Gold Coast Bulletin. Well played.

If you have, in fact, missed it (impressive!) a leadership spill in the LNP party room is imminent: on Tuesday, all will be revealed. “Preference will be given to candidates capable of leading a full term or longer,” the ad quips.

The position for “Premier of Queensland”, it should be noted, has found its opposition this afternoon: following Campbell Newman‘s loss of his Ashgrove seat last week at the brutal QLD election, the QLD LNP has now voted Lawrence Springborg as their new leader. Springborg has previously held the LNP leader position during its opposition, losing elections in 2004, 2006 and 2009.

We believe we have the right level of competence and experience to take our party forward in what are very interesting times in Queensland,” Springborg said today.

Queensland Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk is likely to become the QLD premier, however votes from election day are still being counted – Labor currently needs to secure two more seats to form government.

The position of Prime Minister, however, is not so clear: Julie Bishop has professed her loyalty to Abbott; Malcolm Turnbull, however, has remained relatively silent on whether he will run for leadership if a spill does occur in the party room on Tuesday. The game is on.
